WASHINGTON, D.C. – I am a freelance journalist and communications consultant with more than 22 years of experience working for newspapers, magazines, websites and nonprofit organizations across the country. I specialize in legal and social justice issues, psychology and the arts, but I've covered just about every beat in the newsroom. I also have written a popular weekly newspaper column and long narrative features, including the plight of ranchers working drought-stricken range land in New Mexico, the devastation of massive wildfires, and my own misguided attempts to smuggle a baby into Cuba.
After graduating with honors in journalism from the University of North Carolina, I covered a wide variety of beats for newspapers in North Carolina, Florida and New Mexico. After moving to Washington, D.C., I was the news editor and an investigative reporter at Legal Times. My freelance articles have appeared in the Washington Post, Washington City Paper, Washingtonian magazine, ABA Journal and other publications.
