My investigative projects have won journalism awards and triggered needed reforms.  My series in the Albuquerque Journal about a heroin epidemic in northern New Mexico led to a U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing and increased drug treatment funding that helped save lives.     My investigative projects at Legal Times caused the dismissal of felony drug charges against     13 defendants, the investigation of a slumlord for illegal housing conditions, and the firing of D.C. jail guards for failing to supervise mentally ill inmates who committed suicide in their cells.
